Take all four surveys and share your ideas for Budget 2018

Progress for the
Middle Class

The Government of Canada’s ambitious plan to strengthen and grow the middle class is creating jobs, improving lives, strengthening communities, and growing the economy. Canada now has a stronger economy that benefits all Canadians. There are more opportunities for the middle class. And all Canadians are now part of a stronger, more inclusive country. But our work isn’t done yet. We need your ideas to build on this progress.

Canada has the fastest-growing economy in the G7, and the Government of Canada wants to ensure that all Canadians see the benefits of that success.

Note: Growth is from 2016 Q2 TO 2017 Q2

“Our plan is working. Our economy is growing. We want all Canadians to see the positive impact of this on their everyday lives. Share your ideas, and help us build a brighter future for Canada.”
Bill Morneau, Minister of Finance

Economy of Tomorrow

Recognizing the unique opportunities and challenges that a rapidly changing economy presents, the Government of Canada has already taken definitive steps to foster innovation and equip Canadians with the skills they need to succeed in the economy of tomorrow. You can help us do more to shape Canada’s future by providing your input and ideas, today.

During the consultations for the last Budget, 72% of participants said they would rather have the Government focus on the long term.

The Government has listened to Canadians, and when it comes to growing the economy and transforming it so that it works for the middle class, the Government is focused on the long term. In Budget 2017, the Government presented a long-term plan to create jobs and strengthen the middle class by focussing on innovation, skills, partnerships and fairness.

Lifelong Learning

The Government is making targeted investments to expand access to the education, work experiences and the help that Canadians need to get high-quality jobs. These investments are already translating into greater opportunities for students and workers. With your input, we will continue to focus on creating good jobs today, while also preparing Canadians to advance in their careers.

500000
New Jobs

Canada’s economy has created over 500,000 new jobs since 2015, and the unemployment rate is at its lowest level since 2008. The Government is working to do even more to help create good, well-paying jobs, and to build one of the smartest, most skilled, and most creative workforces in the world.

Gender Equality

The Government is working to advance the goals of fairness and equality, so that as our economy grows, all Canadians benefit. To do that, the Government knows that every Canadian—men and women—should have an equal opportunity to thrive and succeed in Canada’s economy. There is still a lot of work to do, and we want your help to get there.

“In Budget 2017, we included a Gender Statement to guide policy discussions and ensure that we can better support women and girls, reduce the gender wage gap, and help create a more inclusive workforce. This is the Canada I want for my daughters, and my sons.”
Bill Morneau, Minister of Finance
